Monday’s Match

Fayetteville at Bentonville (girls only)

"I think losing the first game to them (was motivation)," Fayetteville coach Joe Thoma said. "Our girls were really focused. When we're focused, we're a really good team."

Especially in the first half Friday night, as Fayetteville (11-6, 6-3 7A West) scored three goals in the first nine minutes. Georgia Templeton started the onslaught a mere nine seconds into the match when she corralled the opening kickoff, beat the Rogers defense down the left sideline and ricocheted an attempted pass off the Rogers keeper for the 1-0 lead.

It's a lead that would expand to 3-0 on a Kamilla Sarvestani score with 31 minutes 44 seconds remaining in the first half.

"They were sitting there scratching their heads, and I was like 'keep it up,'" Thoma said. "Their keeper made a save. Their (defenders) made two saves off the goal line in the first half, or it would have been 5-0 in the first half, then who know what happens."

Rogers (12-4, 7-2) fought back behind the play of Skylurr Patrick, who scored two goals, including one on a free kick that she drilled into the top right corner of the goal from 25 yards out. The two scores give the Purdue-signee 26 goals on the season, and her assist to Jourdan Badely in the 54th minute tied the match at 3-3.

"She was a handful and tough to deal with," said Rogers coach Aaron Crouch. "Typically, she's always on and ready to go. We just need to make sure we created enough opportunities tonight to get the win, and we didn't. "

Fayetteville responded with another scoring run, this one ending with three scores in a 12 minute span in the second half. Myra Tubb , Sarvestini, and Morganne Browning each scored for the Lady Dogs during the run.

"We got beat by a better team tonight, straight up," Crouch said. "They outplayed us and they outworked us as a team. We just got beat by a better team tonight."

With the loss, Rogers remains firmly entrenched in second place in the 7A West Conference. The Lady Mounties will host conference-leading Bentonville next Friday, with a chance to share first-place with a victory.

Bentonville High 1, Springdale Har-Ber 0

Ginger Olsen recorded the only goal as Bentonville (13-2-1, 8-1) slipped past Har-Ber and gained sole possession of first place in the 7A-West standings.

Madison Howard set up the goal with a corner kick, and Olsen scored on a header with 34 minutes left in regulation.

Springdale High 4, Bentonville West 3 (3-1 PKs)

Cynthia Sanders blocked three straight penalty-kick attempts, while Springdale hit all three of its tries as the Lady Bulldogs rallied to defeat West at Wolverine Stadium.

Jessica Alvarado, Jackie Escobar and Jessica Paez scored the penalty kicks for Springdale (9-9-1, 5-5).

West (3-12, 1-8) led 3-1 at one point before Springdale just before half, then added another goal with 27 minutes left in regulation. Nayeli Conteras had two goals and Adriana Parsons added the other for the Lady Bulldogs.

Springdale High 3, Bentonville West 0

Springdale scored all of its goals in the second half as the Bulldogs defeated West at Wolverine Stadium.

Salvador Gonzales, Danny Maldonaldo and Manuel Soto accounted for the goals for Springdale (14-1-1, 9-1), which now enjoys a two-match lead in the 7A-West standings with four remaining.

Bentonville High 1, Springdale Har-Ber 0

Elliot Nimrod provided the only scoring as Bentonville upended Har-Ber at Wildcat Stadium.

Nimrod's goal came in the first half as Bentonville (7-6, 5-5) avenged an earlier loss on its field.

Fayetteville 1, Rogers 1 (7-6 PKs)

Thomas Burch didn't let his opportunity to win the match for Fayetteville slip away. As the seventh kicker of the penalty kick overtime period, Burch drove his attempt to the back of the net to give Fayetteville (8-11, 6-5) the victory.

The team's played to a 1-1 tie in regulation. Lawson Templeton scored Fayetteville's lone goal in the 19th minute. Johan Rodriguez scored for Rogers (8-9, 4-6) with 7:04 remaining in regulation to send the match send the match to penalty kicks.
