Ten years ago this week, Northwest Arkansas was in the midst of a severe winter storm that dropped from half an inch to 1.25 inches across the region.

Thousands of homes were without power in Northwest Arkansas as ice accumulated on power lines and trees. Overweight limbs crashed to the ground taking utility lines with them.

Tommy Deweese, then external relations manager of the Southwestern Electric Power Co. said, "...it was one continuous popping sound as limbs came down one after the other."

Staff photographers at the time were out documenting recovery efforts.
