FORT SMITH -- After a slow start offensively, Springdale relied on its defense to dominate Fort Smith Southside.

The Lady Bulldogs forced 30 turnovers, turning many of those into prime scoring opportunities, to move to 2-0 in the 6A-West with a 51-24 win over the Lady Mavericks on Tuesday night at Southside Arena.

Springdale (13-2, 2-0) used runs of 11-0 and 8-0 in the second quarter to pull away to a 33-11 halftime lead, then outscored Southside (5-10, 0-2) 15-0 to start the second half, building a commanding 48-11 advantage. Those runs were spurred on by the defense.

"Offense does not always travel, but your defense can go anywhere where you go and play," Lady Bulldogs Coach Heather Hunsucker said.
